Our Goals

Kish Kids Outside serves children from DeKalb County, Illinois. 
We care about the health and wellbeing of all children in our community.  We want to be your source of inspiration and education to increase the opportunities for your children to engage and connect with nature.

A Thriving Community

Nature is a place where our children can learn, play and grow. We believe that nature makes kids healthier, happier, and smarter. By bringing organizations and residents together we provide our community with support and guidance. 
We provide resources, networking, and advocacy for connecting children to nature in our community.  

 

Kish Kids Outside

  • Encourages our local governments to aid and support 

  • Promotes policies, partnerships, and programs

  • Addresses unequal representation in outdoor spaces

  • Advocates for the Children's Outdoor Bill of Rights in DeKalb County, Illinois

Children and Nature Benefits

Nature is an excellent source of health and wellbeing
for our children and community. 

  • Nature can help create a community that is more racially, socially, and economically just

  • Improves community health, increases physical activity, and reduces the risk of obesity

  • Sunlight reduces nearsightedness and increases
    vitamin D

  • Enhances relationship skills, reduces stress, anger, and aggression, and decreases violence

  • Boosts academic performance as well as creativity, critical thinking, and problem-solving

  • Increases focus and attention and reduce ADHD symptoms
